July 29th is International Tiger Day.
Ever since I can remember I have loved tigers, especially white ones. I have always thought they were beautiful animals. I remember being worried about the future of tigers from a young age. I vividly remember learning about the dodo and thinking how awful it was that we have killed off species and now no one else will ever be able to enjoy them. I didn’t want that to happen to any other animals. I guess you can say I took up the cause as a child and haven’t looked back.

Tigers habitats have been reduced to just 7% of their original range. Three species of tigers are extinct and the remaining six species are in danger of becoming extinct as well. There are only an estimated 3,000 left in the wild. We need to do more to help this species survive. The biggest threat is poaching and illegal wildlife trade, which seems to be the demise of many creatures. Human development has caused habitat loss and has forced tigers to stalk and kill livestock. Farmers then retaliate against them by capturing and killing. You take away the animals environment and food sources and you expect them to what? Not eat? Humans can be the worst. Lastly, climate change is causing sea level to rise which takes away, even more, habitats for these great creatures.
